Fraudulent Certificates

Over the past few years there has been a growing trend in the appearance of fraudulent training certificates in industry. People who are keen to get work in an industry that is perceived to be high paying are willingly taking a chance on manufactured documents.

For businesses, this, at the very least, adds to your operational costs in onboarding workers who soon prove to be unsuitable for the role for which they were employed. At worst, it poses a risk to your business in terms of safety and health objectives and could cause immeasurable damage to your company’s reputation.

This growing trend is largely due to advances in technology and the proliferation of online companies selling fake certificates (if you don’t believe it just Google it). The type of issues we are seeing include:

Workers adding units of competency to Statements of Attainment

Workers copying RTO certification templates and creating their own Certificate or Statement of Attainment

Companies, that are not RTO’s, issuing Certificates and Statements of Attainment that they are not registered to deliver (Example - 2019 – Tasmanian man found guilty of issuing 31 Statements of Attainment despite not being an RTO)

Do you consistently verify documents at your work site?

A review of current evidence held by your business and your verification processes to identify your level of risk and implementation of a consistent process your team can use in the future to spot inconsistencies that indicate the potential of fraud is easily achievable. Contact us to find out more.
